Howling/droning noise from 20-40mph at constant speed

My 2000 ML320 has a fairly loud howling/droning noise accompanied by a very faint vibration which occurs from about 20mph until 40mph, regardless of which gear the transmission is in. It only occurs at constant speed (foot gently placed on the accelerator to maintain constant speed). It sounded a lot like worn tire noise, however I recently replaces all four tires with Michelin Latitude HP Tour and the noise has only gotten worse. Any idea what could be causing this?

Sounds like a torque converter----I'd put the car on a lift and duplicate noise while under car to locate the source of the noise.

I believe it is a Transfer Case issue. Change the fluid first, 1.6 qts. required, order two qts. from any listed on sheet 236.10.

Video shows the loosening of the fill plug (top), which is correct, but it should be removed to aid in drain flow. Then remove the drain plug (lower).
