whistling brakes because they're high quality??
Hi All,
My 2000 ML430's rear brakes whistle as I'm slowing down and when I asked my MB dealer, she said that it was normal because they are higher quality, and I also found this (3rd paragraph). My guess is that the standard brake pads are set up on this car, from the previous owner.
It seems louder than other cars though. It definitely is annoying with the sunroof open and I don't hear it on other MLs that are driving by. Do you guys have this problem in your cars?
If not, then what do you suggest I do to try and fix it? I'll try and take it into a car wash (maybe a buildup of brake dust...), but do you have any other ideas?
thanks,
riz

thanks ahopeter for the quick reply,
i see that on wolfgang's page the brake paste part number is listed (001 989 10 51). Where can I order something like this, do MB dealer's carry it usually?
Is it a DIY? It seems like they have to be applied directly to the brake pads. I have a very good technical background in computers, but I'm very new to car mechanics.
thanks

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
you can get it from the dealer...but save yourself a few bucks...go to any car parts shop and ask for brake paste...theyll have it. someone published how to do it...ill see if i can find it and send it to you...or the link.

i'm going to call my regular car mechanic (for my toyota) and ask him for an estimate for parts and labor, just in case.
