on the highway i'm getting like 16-18 mpg, but on the city it's like 15 on my 2000 ML430.

What's the supposed normal mileage for this car anyway?

BTW, i'm paying around $2.27/gal for premium in the DC area.

I get about 16-17 in town and have gotten low 20s on the highway. Time of year and weather do affect it.

Hey GDawg,

I've been averaging 16-17 mpg. Thats just aroung town. Don't really know what I'm getting on highway.

How big is our gas tank?? just curious...I always have to keep track of my miles per tank-full.

98 & 99 ML's have 16 gallons...I think that changed in MY00 and up.

Correction - the early models had a 20 gal tank, at least 1999 through 2001, and they then went bigger to increase range. Current 350 has a 22.6 gal. tank.

nope...my only fills 15.xx gal max even when it's near bottom.

I even checked my manual...16 gallons as well as the SA that I work with...

early productions were 16 gal...new ('00+) ones are 22.x

I get around 12-14 mpg. The overhead is usually a bit off. I've simply kept track of my mileage and divided it by the amount of fuel on fill-up. Upon dealer advice, this is the most accurate way, especially if you use the same grade and pump everytime. I'm not that disciplined, so I go to different stations. But the variation in vacuum cutoff can't be too significant.

edmunds says '99 320 has Fuel Tank Capacity: 19 gal

Same for 2000 models as well... both 320 and 430

it's for sure more than 16, since I just tanked 16.6 gals, and it wasn't empty

I don't know then...even at LOW LOW on the gauge, pretty much above empty, it fills up just shy of 16 gallons. I guess we got a weird or 'tarded ML....
