DVD Nav Install in 2003 ML350?

Hey guys,

Can anyone give me instructions (details and photos would be good!) on how to install a DVD Nav unit on a 2003 ML350 which currently has nothing in that slot?

Also, anybody know of the best place to purchase it? Since I want a brand-new one I'm reluctant to use e-bay (there aren't any for sale right now) and I did email Clair Parts. If all else fails, I'll just buy it from the dealer.

TIA
Philip

What do you mean nothing in the slot, you dont have a radio? The Navi is incorperated into the radio . Autogunner.

If you don't already have them, purchase radio removal keys from the dealer (around $10 or so). Insert radio removal keys in slots at bottom of MCS, and you can pull the MCS out. Disconnect all cables (the connectors only go in one way, don't worry about tagging). With MCS on flat surface, remove torx screws on top. Top access panel comes off, and you can slip in the NAV drive. Attach the (previously free) connector on the side, and reassemble. Push in the metal plates on the sides of the MCS to release the radio removal keys, and reinstall in dash.

You will need the radio access code once you turn it on, and you may need version coding at the dealer. Your ML is pre-wired for NAV - you just need to install the drive. It should take all of 5 minutes.

Can't help you with where to buy it - I got mine from the dealer.

Good Luck!

I also have a 2003 ml350..but its not just the drive..how about the actual cd drive that my current radio does not have that you need to insert that cd in, in order to the navigation to read which streets are which? And how much do these navigation drives run? I thought you had to replace that entire radio unit and/or add some kind of extra stuff to your car so the satellite could pick you up.

Yes, it is just the drive, plus of course the DVD. Inside your MCS is a cassette player (lower bay) and possibly a CD player (upper bay). The DVD NAV drive goes in the upper bay, just as I've described. All other components needed (VSS signal, antennae, etc.) are pre-installed.

The "extra stuff" is necessary if you are retrofitting the NAV to a '98 or '99, since VSS was not installed at the factory and the antenna was designed for TeleAid and the cell phone, not a GPS antenna.

The DVD NAV drive plus the DVD map will run around $1500-$1600 at the dealer.
