Annoying noise!
My ml430 has developed an odd noise that only lasts about a second. Almost sounds like a crunching/gurgling noise. Along with the noise, the esp light flashes too. This doesn’t happen all time but when it does, it’s while turning the steering wheel or accelerating from a stop. The car runs great, brakes feel fine. I thought it could be suspension related. The noise is not loud. It sounds like it’s coming from the steering column but I don’t believe it’s a steering issue. Anybody know what this could be? The car is a 2000 and has 150k. Thanks for your help!

Have you checked your power steering fluid level?
Also, check for any gurgling of the power steering fluid reservoir.

When you say a 'gurgling noise', can you centralize what area it's coming from? fluid related?
You also describe the noise as a 'grinding sound'. Liquid doesn't grind.
Maybe post a sound clip that we can listen to.
edit: guessing....
motor mounts
ac fan clutch...

can hear it through the dash on driver side. My guess is it’s something wheel related because along with the noise the esp light flashes and goes away when noise stops. I’d call it a grinding noise instead of gurgling noise. Hard to explain what it sounds like really...
