Your dad is right. Do not do it more often because it will break the engine. Well, at least it happened to my uncle's 560SEL. He do that very often like almost every day ( dont understand either why)...and eventually the engine broke. He needs to change the engine.

yeah, revving in park or neutral is NOT good for the engine. That's why there's the REV limiter at 4k RPM's so that you don't damage the engine when you reach that high, it'll cut you off.
