why can't I use Oil drain plug?

Is their any reason why I can't drain the oil with the drain plug. If I do a careful job in catching all the oil. I have had a lot of european cars and never had to use a pump to change the oil. I looks like the drain plug will spill oil all over the crossmember if you are not carefull? But I could make a (funnel) to catch it? Any help would be great!

If you've got a few bucks to spare you could put one of these http://www.fumotovalve.com/ on it. Get the one with the nipple and you can run a hose from it to your drain pan.

What are you talking about? Who ever told you you couldn't use the drain plug? My local dealer doesn't have the expensive suction machine so the do all oil changes via the drain plug - I asked them and they confirmed. I believe the problem is not to let the oil onto the bushings (torsion rod???). As long as you're careful you'll be OK. Advice, get a diversion funnel-tube assembly, just in case. Have fun and good luck.
