Fuel Type Confusion
My wife and I purchased a ML 430 and love it, however we are confused about the fuel type. Premium is either 91 and above. We put 93 in it and the fuel gauge bounced all over the place. I think we read 91 is listed in the owner's manual. Is it common or just a gauge problem? thanks for any input. l and d

The fuel gauge bouncing all over the place may be related to a problem with the fuel sender unit on the fuel pump. Mine was replace under warranty for a problem of that nature.
I wouldn't think a higher octane fuel would have anything to deal with your problem, but I'm not sure.
What year is your vehicle and has the fuel pump and filter ever been replaced?

The higher-octane fuel should have no effect on the car - definitely nothing negative.

MB calls for 92 octane. In our area 92 is not available so we use 93. Octane rating has no effect on the fuel gage. problem is not related to fuel grade. Its most likely the sender/pump/filter assembly, a fairly common problem on all euro vehicles in the US.
