"LOW RANGE" indicator?

Is it normal that whenever I start the engine, it blinks and beep for 15 times, then disappear? I did not feel any problem and I assume when you are driving, no lights on the instruction panel lights up means no problem, but this bothers me a little bit..

I did call M-Benz dealer to address this problem, they ask me to brign theh car in.

Can't believe that I just got this car for less than 1 week and I just had service A done 4 days ago, and right now I have to bring it into service again..

One good thing is that I got a 2002 with 32K miles, still under warranty.

I see you still haven't gotten an owner's manual...

Repeat the earlier suggestion that you call Mercedes and get one. Have your VIN handy.

I am working with the dealer where I bought it from on the manuals, since it is from another state, I did not have a chance to meet with the saleman and go through everything, I am kind of upset when I received the car and found NOTHING inside the car... There should be a leather case with almost 10 different documents, right ?

Yeah, lots of stuff... but most importantly the car manual and the MCS manual. The rest is like service stuff (approved lubricants) and tire warranties, disclaimers, etc.

I believe if you call Mercedes and give them your VIN they will send you one free... they charge the dealers but a lot of times will give them out to owners.

"LOW RANGE" indicator?

After my first A service, I also noticed that the low range indicator light would blink about 10 times after I start up the engine each time. Does anybody know why this happens?

Regards,

SilverML350

I had this experience with my 2002 ML320 two months ago. Luckily it happened 2 days before I took it for the first Service A. Well, my suggestion is just bring it to your dealer and have them check.

This one is rather interesting. Heres the deal: We were replacing transfer case shift motors by the bushel full. Ma benz decides that they don't want us replacing so many anymore. The following procedure applies to virtually all ML models to determine whether or not you need to have the shift motor replaced. According to Mercedes, there is a temporary fault in communication between the shift motor and the control module. Essentially the module has no idea where the shift motor is anymore. You simply shift to neutral, press the low range button, let it shift, drive a few feet and shift back. When you restart you will likely find the light doesn't blink anymore. If it does, THEN you need to see a dealer for diagnosis. Otherwise, you just recalibrated it yourself and saved everyone involved some precious time!

After reading this thread I noticed my ML ('03 350) doing the same thing. Service rep says it's a sensor problem (easy to fix) that does not effect drivability. I've got an appoint ment to have it checked out. I'll keep you posted.

2004 ML-500 Inspiration
Low range light

To all concerned , I have a 04 ML500 this was happening to me and last week was told to bring it in for them to look at. What ended up happening was an electric motor in the transfer case was faulty. My service rep told me that MBUSA knew about this and they had all gotten a service bulletin regarding this. First they tried to clear the fault code, then they eventually had to replace the part , wait time about 3 hours , warrantied part. DO NOT DELAY bring it in and have them fix it. Good luck and God bless

This also happened to me after my last B service

Yes, it is exactly what I did -- that was 6 months ago.

Solution is what Saturnstyl had described.
