Transfer case

I have a 98 ml320 without any problem except the shuddering when you
make a tight turn from stop and I learned that this is normal on all 98ml's and MB corrected that problem on 99-up models. My question is will a 99 model transfer case bolt on directly to a 98 model or is there another way
to correct this problem.

Check the tread below regarding changing the transfer case, it's not very hard to do.

I would think your dealer could answer your question regarding the 99 case fitting a 98. I suspect they will fit, but I can not say for sure.

The transfer case has never changed it will fit any Mclass, but ask your dealer to be on the safe side. Autogunner.

I have a "grinding" noise coming from the transfer case on a 98 ML320. Can hear if at first start up to about 20 mph and too many other noises to hear it. Seems to be getting louder. Has nothing to do with turning and does it forwards and backwards. Any ideas what it may be? Dealer seems to be baffled.
