Gen 1 ML

Hi folks,
Don't want to start any trouble here, just need a little reassurance. I'm about to purchase a 2001 ML55. I've read a bit about the gen 1 vs gen 2 ML. I'm interested any general opinions regarding the build quality and is it that poor compared to the gen 2. Would the build issues put you off from buying one ? I like working on my cars (e39 M5 / 928) I just don't want to do it all the time. The car I'm looking at has a great service history with records.....

Any opinions are most welcome.....thanks,
CE3

It's difficult to recommend the purchase of any veh. when others have not seen or driven it.

If I were you, I would bring a scanner with me and see if there are any codes stored in all the modules.

An 01, is better than the 00; in my neck of the woods. Service records as must as well as carfax carproof report. As Dundee said, scan for any (saved) codes. Get the car inspected - this is an 18+ year old suv. Look yourself, touch feel pull (there is possibly disintegrating/ brittle cracked vacuum lines, etc) Check suspension - bushings, brake lines, brake hiss, etc. Test drive the beast and dont get caught up in the "whoa/wow" factor while test driving it.

As mentioned above, it's an 18 year old vehicle. It has a higher performance V8 which means the accelerator pedal likely has been liberally used throughout the vehicle's life. Caveat emptor.

Looking at your profile, it looks like you went ahead and bought the vehicle. Congratulations, good luck and please post photos!
