Rear Shocks same for all ML?

Hey all, wow this place has grown since I was last here! Was wondering if the rear shock (inc coil) are the same specs for fitment/pressure etc.
Basically a coil spring has broken on rear and have found a second hand shock & coil spring (as one unit) dirt cheap but was from a 270CDI and the listing shows it as fitting but even though it might fit does it have the same performace in regards to what the ML430 needs?
And yes I know I should do in pairs, and replace both coil and shock but am unable to at this point in time but will be done soon, just need a quick fix for now.

Thanks peeps!

Nope. The rear struts for each year, model (engine size), options (such as ML270 CDI, ML320, ML430, ML500, ML55 / sport packages / tailgate spare wheel carrier) may have different spring ratings (coil) ratings (ie. color coded dots on the coils).
I would not rely just on what the sellers "promote". Yes, they fit and are compatible (same strut assembly), however, the ride height, spring rates may differ. You should look for the correct part number tied to your vin#.

If your spring is broken, perhaps head over to a pick n pull and see if you can find an ML430 pair or ML500. Changing only one spring wouldnt be in my best interest, if I could not match the spring rates correctly.
That's just me.

No real cheap resolution, other than roll the dice to find a good but used equivalent strut to match. We have both an ML430 and ML500. For the ML430, spare set of rear struts from the pick n pull. For the ML500, swapped over to diy coil-overs for improved (ML55) sport suspension and lower (ML55) desired ride height. Going oem from the dealerships just doenst make any $en$e with what they charge.
