BAS/ESP Indicators

BAS/ESP Indicators
I recently had my brake pads changed. Soon after the change, I would get periodic BAS & ESP indicator light warnings. They only show up sporadically and only started after the pad change. I notice no difference in the way the vehicle performs. I know I need to take it in to the dealer to have them take a look, but wanted to check the board to see if anyone had any ideas of possible causes for a "fake" warning. I thought I read somewhere that contaminents (brake dust, etc.) could contribute to "fooling" the sensors for the BAS/ESP systems. I don't know much about them, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

just to chip in, I recently had those warnings light up for me while on a trip.. They went off the next time I started up though, and haven't come up again since.
So I guess I want to know what the deal is too

Well, fellow MBworld told me to replace two of my $8 relays that had to do with BAS/ESP. These relays are poorly made in Purtugal causing the failure on the system. It fixed my problems with the lights coming on. I first took the problem to the $tealership, and they said I would have to replace my brake booster and master cylinder Bull *****. It would've costed me around $1800 to replace 2 relays.

Last week have same problem after driving ion I95 parking lot.
Went to diller. They look computer codes and find foult porblem.
It was brake switch. So far no problems.
Water in the system - there is no sensor by my understanding
which is checking quality of the fluid.
Relay ? perhaps, but it could cose some secondary problems.
Both indicators is On - brake functionality reduction.
Try switch ESP On/Off - it will will not work

I only wish I knew how many brake light switches I have replaced. We keep them under the parts counter now..... Also if the BAS solenoid fails, the brake booster would have to be replaced due to the solenoid not being available separately. I have never heard of moisture, water, brake dust, etc... fooling a sensor for BAS/ESP. I have seen a really big speaker box do it though.

So, you probably right. Switch they replaced in Monday, but last night BAS light come for a few seconds. I just hold my breath. Uuppps… wrong part been replaced….
I assume at dialer shop work people with education and skills, but looking over they shoulders I doubt about they professionalism. They look and look again and again to the screen, flipping manual, and scratching the head (mostly on the back), and after intensive scratching the nose, they suggest replacing the switch. Oh, Oh.... All this "scratching" procedures take the most time, and after couple minutes to change. And all that time I seating in hall and once an hour asking what is going on… They make professional face and quietly statue one problem after another.
Needlessly need to add, if compare MB dealer and Crysler – I see the differences. But overall problem resolving education almost same.
I wish to have free (cheap) software for working with codes and manual to look what they looking. I believe it will be a lot of information, but changing the parts will be the art, not just guess....
Please help!
Another hand, MHO it is too much to sacrifice with a "specialist" of your own lovely car. They guess, and guess, scratch and scratch.... At your own shop you will make better. Don't you?
Any way to get out from this?

Brake Pad Sensor.
The first thing I would have checked would be the Brake Pad Sensors. Check where they plug into the chasis to see if they are loose, or have water in them (Water in the connector NOT the brake lines). Any electrical leakage path to ground could cause the falult light to come on. The clue here is that you just had the pads replaced.

At my best knowledge no pads been replaced.
Maybe before dealer sold ML to me, but I do not know. At least 1500 miles no
pads been chaged.
Last night was wet outside, but dry inside the car, where the switch installed. I'll check connector later today.
If pads been replaced recently, what the mechanism to light that BAS/ESP indicators?
Where I can read more on details how they works and what is relations beetwen each other?
Thanks

[QUOTE=O Dogg]I recently had my brake pads changed. Soon after the change, I would get periodic BAS & ESP indicator light warnings.

I was responding to the Original message from O Dogg, quoted above. The connector I was talking about is the Brake Pad Sensor connector, not the Brake Light Switch connector.
Although the Brake Pad Sensors should only affect the BRAKE indicator light and not the BAS & ESP lights I think it would still be wotrth the effort to check around the brake assembly. the BAS & ESP wheel rotation sensors are in the same location. I would check those sensor connectors also.
