Stock 6 Disc CD Changer Refuses to Play CDS
I own a 1998 ML320 with 69,000 miles on it. It has the stock Panasonic AM/FM/Cass Weatherband Radio with a 6 disc changer mounted in the cargo area where the jack is located. About two weeks ago, whenever I try to play a cd in the changer, it loads disc one for example and then says CD 1 Error 1 or sometimes it will say CD 1 Error 3. I tried using different cds and using cd bay 2, 3, 4, etc. I even tried to use a cd head cleaner and it wouldn't read it either giving me Error Code 1 or 3. I lost the manual for the radio that came with the car so I don't have a clue what these codes mean. Has anyone experiened this problem or is there anyone out their with a manual who can tell me what the error code means? If all else fails I might just change the whole system with a nice aftermarket headunit and cd changer. btw..I took apart the cd changer to see if it was loading the disc properly and it does. It even begins to spin the disc for play then stops like a second later and shuts down. Please help and thanks.

Time for a new cd changer..... might wanna look to the aftermarket for a whole new setup. You could probably do it same cost or cheaper than replacing just the cd changer alone with another benz part.

Cheaper than dealer cd changer
Our car came without a cd changer, I found a kit with the adaptor cable for the stock deck(Bose) and a changer for less than $300.

Mine did the same thing, so instead of replacing it
I just brought an Ipod. Much more songs and without trying to find CDs etc.
I would just get rid of the cd changer, and buy yourself an IPOD.
Next serveral years, cd's will be obsolete.
Think about it...you buy an Ipod for $300 (ipod mini$250) you can take it with you plus you can have about 1000 songs. If you buy a cd changer, you spend about $300 for the changer plus installation for another $200.
