2002 Mercedes Benz ML320
rough ride, (but hey, rough ride and excellent handling, or softy and tippy handling like a ford explorer?), the rear end looks too much like a minivan, my brother spilled soda on the cup holders on the back, so they are almost permantly stuck back there. and the ever so often on cold mornings, the engine will want to idle really bad and almost want to die.

ML320
I've had my 2000 ML320 for 14 days now. (22k miles, Starmarked)
My second MB (first was a 95 E320) and first SUV.
Don't like:
Brake dust
Turning radius

One thing I dislike.....Too much plastic in the interior. Doesn't seem like a luxury SUV. Seems more like an american made jeep or ford.
Yeah, also the minivan rear end...that kinda sucks.

It's gas engine, not that there is anything wrong with it. I'd prefer a diesel in an SUV or anything for that matter other than a sports car, but in 1999 and even in 2004 I don't think MB has one for sale in the USA.

The only things I don't like about it exist on newer MLs:
One touch up and down windows.
rear quarter panel window vents[I don't have third row seating as some '99 MLs have the vents]
DVD or CD Navigation
Automatic climate control
built in compass
wheel turning radius
rain sensing wipers
rear seat center arm rest[nice but I don't ever sit back there!]
I like everything about my current ML for what it is. I like it better then newer MLs for various reasons as well like:
rearview inside and outside mirrors[larger size and lack of distortion]
suspension [yes I like it less soft and more truck-like]
Noise. I actually like the louder sound of the minimal door seals(I can hear my supersprint exhaust).
Placement of the central console controls...sure it's probably because I'm used to them. Every time I get a loaner I'm looking in the wrong place out of familiarity.
Center console cup holder. I can't stand the newer model cup holder. It sucks and take up too much valuable space[I agree though that the left cup holder is worthless...tall skinny things fly out of there like missles...I resolved by buying the drinkholders.com right side cupholder which only interferes with passenger leg room(not my concern!!)
I prefer the ashtray position as well and use the place where the new models have the ashtray as storage for my smokes[I also use the bin below the passenger cup holder for reserve smokes...maybe the newer MLs have this slot also...never noticed [no smoking allowed in loaners!!]
We all have individual tastes and I'm sure many of them will be adressed in the w164.

I like most everything about the ML except the seats. I'm coming from a Range Rover and their seats are superior. I also drive an E500 - put those seats in and I'm happy! My wife ( who hates any new car/truck and wants the old one back) after four months LOVES the ML350! I'm sure she will hate me and the next new (whatever) for a few months too!!

The seats in an '04 Inspiration...maybe all '04s I don't know, are FAR superior to my '99. I just can't get comfortable in them and am constantly playing with the power controls...btu I'm 250 pounds and I think the previous owner may have been large also...oh well. Unless I lose weight I may have to replace the seats. Of course in three years when I want an '05 mL500 and they want to give me $10K for trade-in I may have to keep her till she dies...thus new seats are a must!

-The lousy heater
-The front end "dive" when it goes over a speed bump or other obstacle
-The fact that I am stuck in Toronto 2,000 miles from home on Labo(u)r Day weekend with a completely failed transmission.

It's a domestic (built in America), horrible reliability, and horrible resale value... also cheap materials, and it doesn't quite have the sleek/sophisticated MB look.

Oh, and the fact that top speed is governed to 116 mph. Surely this is on the U.S. versions but I drive this vehicle frequently in Mexico where Autobahn speeds are achievable on many of the tollways.
