2000 ML430: Brake Warning Lamp On After 15-20 Minutes of Driving
I took ownership of my 2000 ML430 about a month ago and after driving around for a while I notice that my Brake Warning light turns on. It does this consistently if you allow the car to idle between 10 and 20 minutes. At night, when this light comes on, you can usually see the ABS/SRS lights, etc faintly glowing as well, but it has to be dark to see these faintly glowing. I have done the following to troubleshoot, but looking for a little guidance:
- Checked to ensure my parking brake was not engaged
- Held the parking brake release and pulled up on the parking brake lever to ensure it wasn't failing to disengage
- Checked the brake fluid reservoir (it does not appear to be low)
- Disconnected and cleaned the brake fluid sensor connection wires and cleaned the terminals with contact cleaner
- Checked for master brake cylinder leaks (unable to identify any leaks)

The seller of your car might have tampered with the Ins. Cluster in order to sell it. Remove it and see why there is a shadow light bulb.
More important, is to check the rear brake lines for corrosion that run along the driver side door.
