I took ownership of my 2000 ML430 about a month ago and after driving around for a while I notice that my Brake Warning light turns on. It does this consistently if you allow the car to idle between 10 and 20 minutes. At night, when this light comes on, you can usually see the ABS/SRS lights, etc faintly glowing as well, but it has to be dark to see these faintly glowing. I have done the following to troubleshoot, but looking for a little guidance:

• Checked to ensure my parking brake was not engaged
• Held the parking brake release and pulled up on the parking brake lever to ensure it wasn't failing to disengage
• Checked the brake fluid reservoir (it does not appear to be low)
• Disconnected and cleaned the brake fluid sensor connection wires and cleaned the terminals with contact cleaner
• Checked for master brake cylinder leaks (unable to identify any leaks)

My brakes do not feel spongy and I'm not detecting any noticeable issues other than this damn light being on. The car never starts with this light on and if I turn the car off and back on again the light will USUALLY go away. If my pads were low (they don't appear to be) wouldn't my "brake pads worn down" light be on as well? I'm thinking this is may be something electrical due to the nature of the issue. This is my first Mercedes and I knew what I was getting into going into this, but can anyone point me in the right direction on this one? Any help would be much appreciated! get a scan to determine what part of the electronics is faulty---all else sell the car

The seller of your car might have tampered with the Ins. Cluster in order to sell it. Remove it and see why there is a shadow light bulb.

More important, is to check the rear brake lines for corrosion that run along the driver side door.
