Crankshaft Position Sensor, Testing and Adaptation

Q1. After replacing the CPS, is it absolutely necessary to do the CPS or Flywheel Adaptation Procedure? If "Yes", are there workarounds for emergency situations, like disconnecting all power for awhile, or other?

Q2. Is there a WIS or other procedure for testing an unmounted CPS, as in Ohms? See above, I am thinking to salvage a used one as 'in the box' is expensive.

Why: I am thinking to 'salvage' a used CPS and carry it in my spare's kit when 'wilderness wandering', to give confidence. California's King Range has some areas that are 'way yonder' from even cell coverage.

At less than $30 new, why bother with the work just to have an unproven part? I have a new one in the box in the console for both my M113s.

True, that. I lean to MB OEM or equivalent when possible for many items.

Anyone have an idea about the Adaptation Procedure being necessary after a CPS change (Q1)?

My symptom was engine shutting off after a preset running time. After sourcing the identical Bosch part number, I replaced it and did not have to follow any procedure to have the engine start up immediately after installation. I need to replace my oxygen sensors to learn if the Check Engine Light remains on from the CPS replacement without any other procedure.
