Common ML500 problems
I have an '02 with 80K mi., and it's been surprisingly trouble free. I occasionally have the torsion bar popping noise (goes away temporarily with silicone spray), I had the BAS/ESP light problem a few times under warranty, and the normal occasional rattles, but it seems to have gotten better with age. I plan on keeping it at least another 100K and have no reason to think it won't last. That's a good thing, because the trade-in value on these things is really, really bad.

My 02 at 25000 miles has been excellent. Early on I had a few problems of a minor nature that were easilly taken care of by my dealer and have not reoccured. Some of these were involving the MB phone/MCS.

Problems are few and far between on newer ML's. 2003 and up, you won't go wrong. Make sure if you buy a previously owned ML that you do a THOROUGH inspection on it, you never know what the previous guy did with it. I love my ML and its been quite trouble free, even for someone as picky as I am!
