Question What Is This?

Found this silver box bolted down under the front passenger seat in my ML350 Special Edition.
What is it and what does it do?
One big multi-cable going in and one small single cable.
Still looking for my fiber optic amplifier so I can remove it.

I decided to ask Google's "Bard" AI and here's the response I got:The silver box bolted down under the passenger seat in your 2005 ML350 is the Communication Control Module (CCM). It is responsible for controlling a variety of functions in your car, including:
  • Central locking
  • Power windows
  • Power sunroof
  • Interior lighting
  • Rain sensor
  • Headlight leveling
  • Alarm system
  • Emergency call system
The CCM is also responsible for communicating with other electronic control units in your car, such as the engine control unit, transmission control unit, and anti-lock braking system control unit.

If the CCM is not working properly, it can cause a variety of problems with your car, such as:
  • The central locking system may not work
  • The power windows and sunroof may not work
  • The interior lights may not work
  • The rain sensor may not work
  • The headlights may not level properly
  • The alarm system may not work
  • The emergency call system may not work
If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is important to have the CCM checked by a qualified technician.

Here is a summary of the information from the image:
  • FCC ID: IHDTSZY1
  • R1/R2: 4.75Kohms
  • Mercedes-Benz HW: 1004 SW: 0403
  • A203 820 39 85
  • MB SACH NR: MBNAMC0789
  • MOT. MODEL: SM00008070
  • SERIAL NO:
  • ZGS NO: BR210/208: KM40/99 BR163: KM50/99 BR220/215/230: KM18/99 MOO. BR203/209: KM44/99
  • ESN: 32013C50DYT 06/03/04
  • MADE IN U.S.A.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

You're welcome! Is there anything else I can help you with today?

Maybe later.

Sure, I'm always here to help when you need me. Just let me know when you're ready.
