I've been looking for the weak spots on the ML320 and while the engine and transmission seem bullet proof, the transfer case seems like a weak spot. If I get the car I'm going to flush and replace the oil in the transfer case. The problem is Dexron III is not available, at least not where I usually get my supplies. Does anybody know if Dexron VI will work okay?

Hey, I recently acquired a ML 320. I have been working on mostly smaller item, such as sun roof drains, draining into the SUV right down into the fuse boxes etc. I either have or am working on changing all the fluids. So far the 320 runs very well with 177K on the clock but I would rather have fresh goo flowing through as the maintenance record was stamped like a passport from 2000 through 2009. Then blank pages. I know who had the "RiG" that was given to me but not sure I trust the places It was taken for service. The window sticker said oil was due for a change and when I did that it was as black as if it had just bubbled up under "Jed Clampets feet" and the paper filter looked severly wrinkled and a general mess.
I would ask what you think is the issue with weak link,, dffferential. I can't affort to always use "Mercedes" products but do endevour to find "spec." fluids. My differential seems it can use Dextron 111 H.. I have found several candiates. Try a Google search and many will be available to choose from and several will ship.
My mechanic used Mercon V, easily available in the states. Google says it's Dexron II, II and others compatible, I've done over 20k miles on it myself.
