Did I Break My Cd Changer? Please Help Reward!!
Hi Team,
Really need some help here. Here is the situation.
The cd changer in my 2000 ML430 has skipped occasionaly over the past month or so. I decided trying this Philips CD Lens Cleaner kit. So basically it is a cd with 2 small fine brushes attached. So you slide the cd in, and in 20 seconds cleans the Laser of the CD player.
Well my CD changer now displays a message called CD ERROR, CHECK CD CHANGER. Ive tried other discs, unplugging the unit cable, and lol even blowing in the unit, and no luck. The CD's load fine, and the MCS unit runs as normal, but when its time for them to play it displays the error.
Starmarc does not cover this under warranty, and mercedes is asking like $900 which is as sad as that NBA incident.
I thought about calling Philips, and see if I can get them to pay for a new changer, being that it was their disc that is responsible for this.
Anyway if someone can give me some direction on how to fix this problem, I will send them $15 via paypal. I know its not much, but times are rough.
Thanks so much & Happy Holidays.

Um.. Well... Honestly you needed a new one anyways. Correct, starmark does not cover CD changers. Just replace it yourself, save some cash. Two screws, and an electrical plug and a fiber optic connection that is simple to unhook.
There is no telling what the previous owner did with that CD changer, and most folks treat their CD's like garbage. I am not sure about MB wanting you to use those cleaner discs in their players anyways. CD changers have a hard time with thicker discs than normal.
If you get really inclined (what have you got to lose at this point?) take it apart and try to clean the lens with alcohol and a cotton swab. If that doesn't work, you are 100% screwed.
Taking it apart isn't too hard if you take your time. Just remove all the screws you see and pop the large cover off. This should expose the lens you need to see.
Your paypal offer is generous.... but we just like to help each other out.

If you need a replacement.....
I have a non-fiberoptic unit, bought by mistake on eBay ( yes I did find the right one on eBay also ). If yours is non FO and you need one I'll let it go cheap to get it out of the house.
BTW, FO part #'s: 1638201589,1638203889,67824010,67823435. Non FO start with "420"
