Gas Tank Questions..?
Ok lest talk capacity. Is the tank capacity on my ML 19 gallons total.... Or 19 + a 3 gallon reserve... Making the total 21..? I've averaged 20 mpg on the last trip but I'm really curious what the true range of the tank is? 380 miles on a 19 gallon tank. I'd really like to have a range of 450-500. Has anyone put in a larger tank..? Or a reserve tank in the place of the spare tire...? You could get a pretty large fuel cell there.

Screwing with the fuel tank on an ML is pretty much a non-option. In theory an ML 55 fuel tank would do the trick, as it has a remote reservoir and higher capacity, which forces the spare to be in the cargo area also. Fuel tank R&R on an ML is not for the faint of heart, and this swap will probably entail further modifications I don't know about.
