Thinking of purchasing a 1999 ML430
Looking for a new car as a daily for short commutes to and from work. Found a 1999 ML430 which looks to be in immaculate condition with 86k miles for $3500. Was wondering what the MBworld experts had to say on the reliability and of this platform and if it would be wise to buy at that price point. The car is around 150 miles away so I would have to make a trip to get it. Owner claims everything is in working order. Oil and filter, spark plugs, and coils have been replaced since their purchase of the vehicle in march 2025. Any input is appreciated!

Ask if he has replaced any suspension parts and fuel filter. At that mileage your suspensions and fuel filter are about to go out and you will probably spend around $2k-3k in parts plus labor. You need to factored in these additional charges. Plus remember buying something this old many parts are no longer available and you will need to source used parts, rebuild, or aftermarket. These trucks are really good if they’re well maintained. bought my first ML in 2002 a brand new one and in 2016 bought a used 2001 with 87k miles for $3200. I still have the 2001 and just hit 105,000 miles and still love this truck but just a pain in the *** sourcing certain parts needing to be replaced. The truck you’re buying appears to be priced well if it was well maintained. Asked if it was stored indoors or outdoors. If stored outdoors, many of the plastic or rubber will probably need to be replaced or restored depending on the environment it lived in.
