2002 ML 500 Bose sound system problems sound is flat
I have had a nagging problem with the radio and CD as the
sound changes from real crisp highs to the sound in (speech mode). This happens in standard and ambiance mode.
I had the dealer turn off the auto volume control when I first
got the ML.
Settings can be 0 or 10+ it makes no difference.
I have had it to the dealer 5 times.
They have replaced the radio unit twice.
Replaced speakers twice and they said they
replaced the amp.
Each time I get it back it is fine for about two days
and then the problem returns.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Not much else they can change. All I can tell you is that my ML500 does not do that and I usually keep it set on ambience. Could it be a bad speaker??

is the "flat" sound just FM?...

Me and SchneiderIS also have similar problems but only for FM reception. Neither of our dealers have found problem but have not done nearly as much as your dealer - GOD I WISH MY DEALER CARED AS MUCH AS YOURS.
My analogy is FM MONO sound 85% of the time - independent of STD, Ambience mode and my auto adjust has been off too in hope of correcting problem.
