Leaky rearview mirror
The rearview mirror leaked out a "black goo" -- the autochromic liquid (?).
Has this happen to anyone else? The dealers here in San Jose area
quote about $400 for a replacement. Any recommendation? The oem
supplier is Donnelly. I read somewhere that Gentex is better but it's not
an MB oem supplier.

I paid the $400 for dealer install
I figured it will last at least 5 years like the first one and I'm only going to own this ML for 3 more years. Mine didn't leak it just filled up the inside of the housing where you could see the liquid and the distorted view through the mirror. There are aftermarket mirrors but I could not install them myself and figured OEM was the best way to go even if the most expensive.

I had the same problem on my 98 ML320. The dealer wanted $500 for a replacement. I decided to buy an aftermarket rear view mirror from Mitocorp. Installation wasn't bad. It's a great mirror which has a bonus outside temp and compass built in. Check out their website for more info: www.mitocorp.com. Hope this helps.
