Engine died twice upon approach of hill and curb

The first time the engine died was when I was driving at 35 mph, transitioned from a flat road to an incline (hill). The ML felt as if it had bottomed out. While this happened, the engine had stalled. Luckily, there were no cars behind me at the time. Otherwise, I would have been in a fender bender. I managed to pull to the side of the road and re-start the engine without any problems.

Now, several weeks later and travelling at a slower speed over a smaller bump (curb), the engine died again as I approach my garage.

I am clueless as to what is actually happening here ... does anyone have an explanation for this?

Please help. Thanks
