2006 ML350
New to the M-Class

Hello everyone, I have just taken delivery of a 2006 ML 350. It is an anomaly of a car because it has the Keyless Go option, not normally available on the 350's. Having previously driven a 2005 C55 AMG, I must say that it is quite a departure from what I am used to, but overall a very nice vehicle. Just wanted to say 'hi' to everyone here, and I hope that we can be some useful exchanges of information in the future! Thanks!

Did you special order it or buy out of dealer stock? You give hope to those that want the Keyless Go feature but have been denied by MBUSA's convoluted marketing of packages and options.

Thats wierd. How did you get keyless go on it?? That was one of the options I really, really wanted on mine. Was it just some freak accident? Man, I really wish they would just offer all the options on all the engine trims and not try to make people who buy bigger engines feel unique by giving them options that all the other "lower" engines can't have.

2006 ML350
My dealership had 2 of these "accidents" in stock, one black, one silver. Apparantly, they were ordered by the dealership in a window of a couple of days when the Keyless Go option WAS available on the 350. Then MB changed their mind. Here is a rundown of the options that the car has on it:

775 Iridium Silver Metallic Paint
530 DVD Navigation
873 Heated Front Seats
889 Keyless Go
890 Power Liftgate
320 Entertainment Pkg.
322 Appearance Pkg.
323 Air Suspension Pkg.
324 Sunroof Pkg.

Total Retail Price: $51,485.00

I was debating between a stripped down 500 and a dressed up 350, the 350 won. Now if I had had choice, I would NOT have gotten the DVD NAV, which I never used in my C32 or C55, I would NOT have gotten the Keyless Go or Air Suspension Pkgs., and WOULD have optioned for the Lighting Pkg. and Sirius Satellite Radio. But, alas, the timing was not right for me to order an ML. The Lighting Pkg. should be STANDARD in my opinion.

I agree that HID lighting should be standard in a vehicle of this calibre. Maybe the steering feature only of the lights should be optional. You say you would not have gotten the air suspension--did you drive one without? Many reviewers say the handling and comfort of the air suspension is far superior to the steel sprung one.

I have the option to have it for 1400€ but I haven't take it since I can't understant the use.

Best Regards.

It's much less expensive than that in the US ($1,080), but still not really justifieable for most. It's just a minor convenience if you are in and out of your car a lot to never have to reach for your keys.

Greg,

I think Rubensans is exaggerating a little bit quoting option 889: Keyless-Go at 1,400 euros. Even allowing for the higher taxes in Spain, this is steep. The German list price without taxes for the 889 is 1,020 euros, which corresponds to 1,280.00 US Dollar - again, you get a slightly better bargain than we do.

FYI: Before taxes, a ML350 with the same options as the one E55AMG2005 just got for 51,485.00 US Dollar would be 54,445 euros, or 68,323.00 US Dollar. To this add (in several EU Member States) up to 180% vehicle posession tax and in any case on top of that between 15% and 25% Value Added Tax. Having done this, proceed to the nearest gas station and fill up your new car with gas at ± 6 US dollars per gallon (because the vehicle is delivered not with a full tank, but maximum 10-15 litres).

Cheers,
Birger

I know this sadly. Our ML was priced more than 57000 euros (more than 70000$) and the gas price in France is, if I'm not mistaken, more expensive than in Luxembourg.

Birger

Hi/hola, Ruben

Amazing - 1,020 € before tax in Germany and 102 € more in Spain! Viva Europa! It might be worth while for you to see if your W164 wouldn't be less expensive if bought in another EU Member State.

Saluts a Catalunya,

Birger

Holy Madonna!

88,812.28 euros = 111,451 US Dollar!?!? I do hope that that price is inclusive of tax!

And I'm "moaning" about the 69,367.75 euros = 87,049.60 US Dollar mine would have cost before discount and inclusive of VAT...... [to be honest, I'm even "moaning" about the final price, which is considerably lower].

But your dealer is - I'm sorry to say - also ripping you off. These items have, IMHO, not to be on your invoice:

Underbody protection 134
Check before delivery 601
Assesor 250

I know - it's only a drop in the ocean. But still, enough that the dealer makes a living - no reason that he should go on a diet of champagne and caviar.

Funny though that you get away with only 217 euros in shipping - I pay 297, and Luxyland is far closer to Bremerhaven which I thought was the only European port of entry for the US-made Benzes. Or do they also bring in via Barcelona?? In that case 217 is a rip-off too.

Cheers,
Birger

Prices include TAX.

I have gone to 3 diferent dealers and this was the cheaper. They also make me after this a ridiculous discount.

Underbody protection 134 (this is an extra of underbody protection in stainless stell).

Check before delivery 601
Assesor 250
(This is a rip off but all dealers here do it). It's for doing nothing; wash the car and check levels.

Wait to see prices in portugal; there they are a lot expensive.

Best Regards.

Haha BoB...a brother in my misery...turned in the C55 this morning...the whole drive to the dealership was "what am I doing, what am I doing, is this really happening..." haha

But the ML is really a nice truck/car whatever...I may become very attached to it with time! But my mind is an AMG mind! haha!

Bonjour Birger,

@Rubensans: I have never seen such an optioned ML, you have taken everything in the option list!

Yes, I take all option, except the incopatible items.

I also didn't take the sound system and the cd changer because I will put a custom one with a ipod.

Best Regards.
