Thumbs down Navigation **RANT**

**WARNING THIS IS A RANT**

The US W164 navigation system sucks! My data disc is 2004.1 which pretty much seems to be what everyone else has also. I never would have imagined that a $60,000 vehicle would have THE worst navi system on the market. Its just awful. Yesterday I drove nearly 100 miles with it in town and highway driving which is comparable to what I do with my Toyota navi system.

1. My 12 year old business telephone number is not in the database. It appears that only Banks, gas stations, restaurants and maybe some hospitals are the only real phone numbers included.

Okay, I'll live with that. I have the address so I punch that in.

2. Oh no, my destination is not a on state highway or interstate so it can only get me near where I want to be and therefore I'm on my own to do the rest even though I can clearly see the other "smaller" roads on the screen. It can't figure out anymore than that at this point.

Next I look for a Lowes, Home Depot, Architects office, and childs Dr office. Nope. All have been around this area for a minimum of 3 years and some longer than 15. Streets and neighborhoods only a year or so old show up but not these old POI's.

One of the things I like about the Toyota and Honda systems is the fact you can read ahead at what your turns are going to be or even pick one of three best routes to your destination. In the MB system you take what it gives you and only hope for the best.

**END OF RANT**

No flames please.

I absolutely love our ML it is top notch perfect. I wouldn't even consider letting it go but this system is not worth the money you pay for it. Its embarassing that they even install it and call it a navigation system.[xx(]

$1,000 systems like the new Garmin 2720 do better than this.

Sad but true. The new Magellan Roadmate 700 works well IMO and runs under$800.00.

on the MB navigation system, if you want to get to the "smaller" roads on the screen, just click on the joy stick and a circle will appear. Move the circle to the area on the screen that you want to get to and click on it and the navigation system will tell you how to get there.

How do you do it with a nav that is an 03 nav?

Jack, I think it's a combination of system, software and user. My system will find any address I put in, in my tests. Re-read the manual. Of course, the data may have holes in your particular area.

this is why you would see all those gas station, golf course, park etc... icons on the navigation screen. They are there for you to select. Otherwise, there is no point in showing those icons.

Possibly a dumb question ... I've got 02 CLK 55 AMG ... reference "Mick1" post ... where/what is the joystick or does this pertain to later model year MB's?

Look for "destination input" in the user's manual.

I have ML350 2006 and did not find any problems with the Navigation System, have entered all kind of addresses and used POI feature a lot. Actually, I find ML Navigation System very useful and intutive... Issues might be specific to some areas.....

New disk 2005.1 is out and adds a ton of missing streets, etc.
