Tranny change impact on value

I wouldn't worry about it. It's not a job that must be done in the factory. As long as it performs fine until you sell it I would not think it would have an effect.

redvettx2, sorry I haven't been around, been busy. I forwarded the info you gave me and he said your car isn't in the system.(?)

Also, what's the deal with changing a valve body assembly? How long did it take to do? You have a manual tranny? I think it uses the same clutch system as the older SLK's (not sure).

...and where the hell is a valve body assembly other than a motor?

An automatic transmission valve body is a very complex piece of work...

So it's an auto? I thought it wasn't?

Is it a specific production month?

Are the trans problems related on a particular production month, if I buy an august produced model, will it have the upgraded part?

Thanks.

I have the 7-G Tronic transmission in my E350 which is an early build E350. To this date I have not had a single problem. The transmission in the SLK350, ML350, and E350 are teh same damne ones. It could just be a few bad apples, but this is not something that effects all 7spd transmission. Lets remember there are 7 spd transmission from 2004 E500, SL500, and S500 out there with the 7spd trannies and they have no failed to this date.

Nice try, but wrong. The new MLs have the nifty shifter that is the problem. I do not know the production dates that were effected or even if the real problem has been found. My personal belief is that the physical "fixes" are simply an attempt to overcome a larger intergration issue. These trannys are run by separate computers that integrate with the engine management system AND the chasis management system. This leads to issues.

To be clear, I am certain that ALL early build MLs are effected. That is not to say that they all exhibit the same failures. It just means that they have a higher risk of it and the "fix" (retro fitted or new ones) reduces that.

Why do I know and or care? Well, mine is effected and I am upset. Researching the safety aspect of this risk has led me to others in the same situation and to mechanics with horror stories. It seems that my case becomes more solid and the negligence more apparent with each day.

The transmission is somehow linked to chassis dynamics? Where did you get that?

I know I've stated this in other posts but I've had some of the same problems with our transmission and the leaping forward. I refused to pick up our car when they told me they couldn't find anything wrong. Since they couldn't duplicate the problem the told me I must be driving with two feet since that would explain the car leaping forward with my foot on the brake. Finally, the techinician drove the car home and back and brought his computer with him and it happened. Actually the car just completely died and the computer threw a faulty crank sensor. If you're still trying to find the culprit...that's where I would look next.
