First road trip in 2006 ML350

We just returned from a trip to Central Oregon (Black Butte Ranch & Bend). The trip is short (140 miles, plus another 30 to Bend) but goes over a 4,800 ft. pass and the area of our destination is at about 3,400 ft. elevation.

We had 2-3 people, gear, AC on and a bike on the back and got 20 - 22 mpg. I have no complaints about power or transmission operation (I only wished for a V8 when in marginal passing situations). The Nav worked well for finding a restaurant in Bend.

The air suspension is just great! I find Auto mode is the best compromise, but I put it in Sport for the twisties.

We've got about 1,600 miles on it now and are very pleased.

Rattles?

I had one slight intermittent rattle above the steering column a couple times, but it has gone away. Also, only once, it sounded like crickets coming from the front of the engine (squeaky pulley?) on startup, but it too went away.

Thanks for the input.

The more I read about the airmatic, the more I think we made a mistake by not choosing it.

- if your delivery date is November, there's still time to add it. As the dealer will make more profit, you shouldn't even have to lean too hard on him.

Good luck,

The Air Suspension was not really high on my list of priorities when purchasing the ML, but as with the Keyless Go option, it is an option that I am really glad that I have. I usually cruise around in Sport mode (lowered ride, increased road feel), but when carrying people, the comfort mode sure comes in handy!

Have you tried Auto mode? I think that is a very good compromise for most of the time.
