Question Engine oil warning

Our ML the last few days randomly is displaying the "check engine oil level and next refueling" warning. It is not in red either. No set time or situation for it come on either.

Anyone else have the same issue? Any ideas of what?

Due for first major maintenance in 1,000 miles which I'll schedule tomorrow.

Uhh, well Jack, did you check the level? That's what it asked you to do. :-)

lol!

I guess that information would have been helpful....

Yes I did and the oil level is between the 2nd and 3rd "dots" on the stick. Looks fine to me.

I have heard this problem from many people, including me..It has happened to me about 3 or 4 times but the level seems to be fine...I think the problem is with a sensor of some type.
Will have the dealer check all sensors involving this problem b/c message just keeps popping randomly

I get this too! I was nervous when I first got it so I pulled over and checked the oil. Right in the middle of the red jobber.

Actually refueled, checked it again and it was fine. During the next 200 miles (all one drive) it popped up 4 times! ARGHHH!!!

I also get it
hyper active sensor; I'm told (but have not tried) that it causes the same condition if the oil level is too high;

I purchased a case of the "special" oil for the CDI also as you will have a very hard time finding it when you need it on a road trip; however I have never had to add oil; I have left it for months between oil changes if it pretty much doesn't move...

however, that being said, it would suck to ignore it, and it be a 'real' issue;

This is a fairly common problem in the MLs. Mine was fixed when the service department uploaded a correction to the software.............

MB is going to come out with a new oil level switch soon,they are testing now,they are say that as the oil breaks down the oil level switch reads incorrectly, if you change the oil the problem will go away for a while, the dealer can do it under warranty until the new sensor comes available

I get this problem only above 75 mph, Oil level was fine but I still added 1/2 quart then a two weeks later its back.No signs of leaks anywhere.Maybe I should just change the oil since my next service is not till 7000 more miles.
