interior storage

I've got my ml since friday and i am very pleased with it.

I just keep on wondering, where do i have to put my pens, coins, sunglasses ...
The storage compartments in the center console have these strange shapes, which are totally un-ergonomical for its purposes.

Where do my fellow-ml-drivers keep their pens, coins, sunglasses ?
One other question: is the steering wheel in the center of the drivers seat ?

PenS??...How many do you need to keep in your vehicle?
Sunglasses > In glove compartment
Coins > Peelers
Steering wheel >..."Bloody hell"...

coins -> storage compartment above ashtray (the lack of coin holder is irritating.. my last SUV had a nice one)
pen -> compartment that holds the phone... I don't have a phone and the pen gets in the way when fishing for change in the place I keep my coins and it's hard to find in the glovebox so here it goes
sunglasses -> cup holder

How about the drawer above the ash tray. Its rubber lined, stuff will not rattle and its very convienient to both front seat occupants. My gripe is that the manual/info portfolio will not fit in the glove box. There is a coin holder in the bottom section of the arm rest also.
