Buzz in steering column

Since new I've had an intermittent buzz in the steering column at highway speeds. Anyone else?

lol you always get the MBs with no problems it seems. With the exception of your auto up window issue on your 02 ML that I remember.

Greg, been thinking about your buzzing and I believe that I remember early in the W164 program that I saw on one of these sites several similar complaints. From what I can recall I believe it was some sort of problem with a piece of trim rubbing against the steering column and it was easily resolved by dealers by either replacing the trim of moving it slightly. When it happens see if you can dampen the sound by moving your hand around all the trim that surrounds the column.

I had a buzz at various times and it took three trips to the dealership to fix it. First, they simply tried to tighten the collar on the column itself which didn't work. It turns out that the tech that was working on my car had poor hearing which was discovered during a test drive with me. I pointed it out and he heard nothing but the service manager heard it. Anyway, after disassembling the column they found a connection on the inside of the column was rattling causing the high pitched buzzing sound. This may be the same problem you're experiencing and the test the sosh proposed did work for me in pinpointing the problem. However, mine was not simply the trim piece though I was told every time that it was the culprit.

A list of technical service bulletins for the W164 M-Class is available at http://www.pointedthree.com in the W164 forum. About half way down it lists the service campaign for the W164 steering buzz.
