ML500 mileage

If you are looking for MPG figures I get about 16 around town and 20.5 on the road. I put on about 15 miles per day for 4 days and then a 200 mile round trip once a week. I generally fill up about once in a week and a half.

I am about to buy an ML500, just thinking how much fuel should I be expecting. I will be commuting around 180miles a week.
Also, how has reliability been for the ML500, any major recalls or failures?

If your commute is all highway you should be able to do the 180 miles per week on 9 or 10 gal. If its stop and go about 12 gal. My W164 is a year old and has been excellent with no problems of any consequence. Its the 3rd ML I have had and by far the best. Be sure you get Airmatic.

I test drove one last night with Airmatic. Does it make a huge difference in ones without Airmatic? I heard MB was having some issues with air suspensions.....
I will also test drive a Range Rover Sport, just to make sure I considered all the options.

I just bought my wife the 350 (I know you're asking about the 500 but hoping this helps a little) and I just checked the trip computer and after 2100 miles (she drives 30 miles total, per day, all highway) the ML350 is averaging 17.5mpg. I also just checked my credit card statements and can confirm she put $50 in the tank (I believe it takes more than $50 to completely fill up) one time within one week exactly. Tuesday to the following Tuesday. Each time putting $50 in the tank. Of course the V8 in the ML500 will differ but I hope this gives you an idea.

PS Definitely get the Airmatic Suspension package...VERY smooth ride and worth the extra money!

My ML350 mileage

I've got a 06 ML350 with about 11,500. I drive 80 miles a day round trip over a mountain range with about a 1,200 ft elevation change, all freeway with some stop and go. i.e. one way it's 40 miles to work, and it take about an hour to get there. According to the trip meter, I've gotten an average MPG of 20.1 with an average speed of 40 mph.
On long trips if I fly with the cruse control my mpg jumps up to 23.
Also the ML350 has a 25 or 26 gallon tank so buying premium gas at $2.90 a gallon for 20 gallons is about $56
Oh this is in sunny Calif, driving from Santa Cruz to San Jose.
