7G-Tronic Problems ?

I have been thinking of adding an ML320 CDI to the "fleet". However, after seeing multiple reports of problems with the new 7-speed tranny, I think it's best to wait until they sort it out.

Thoughts?

Its been sorted out and the problem was just with the very early ML's. Mine was a Sept 05 delivery and I never experienced it. Actually the problem was actually with a very few vehicles

Thanks for the response. I hear that there is a complete MB model range embargoed on dealers' lots in Germany right now. They cannot be delivered to customers who have ordered them until the problems with the 7G-Tronic have been fixed.

Perhaps, it's specific to that particular model; but to me, a 7G-Tronic is a 7G-Tronic is a. . . . . .

FWIW, AMG will not use the 7G-Tronic in any of the vehciles that they modify.

The most prevelant issue has been slightly "rough" downshifts when coming to a stop at low speeds, but it is a small percentage of all units. My very early (6/01) 350 has been virtually perfect with almost 15k miles now. I think it's a great auto.

The main reason AMG has not used the transmission is that it is limited to about 450 lb ft of torque. It is slated to be used in the C63, but the engine will be detuned slightly to meet this limit. http://www.worldcarfans.com/spyphoto...c63-amg/1.html

I have 27,000 miles in 10 months and no tranny problems, I like the 7 G Tronic! The best vehicle I have ever owned.

There was a bad batch of transimissions and that issue has been solved. The transmission has been praised in any review I have read. don't worry.

I believe the new E63 and CLS63 currently run the 7G-Tronic...
