License plate harness access

Does anyone know the easiest way to access the wires that run to the license plate lights sockets on the 06 ML350. I need to install a pair of resistor kits for an LED License plate install.

I tried searching posts and found nothing specific to the 06 ML, although I was able to complete the task on my 05 C320.

Thanks in advance

I couldn't do it easily. I had to break the casing that the OEM festoons were plugged in to in order to sneak the resistor up in to the space above the lights. Very sloppy install.

Originally, I tried to remove that entire chrome trim piece, but after removing the torx screws I was not able to move it at all, so rather than break anything further, I screwed it back on.

I'm definitely looking to do a more thorough (i.e. clean) job, but I haven't had the time.

Thanks for the reply. After posting the question, I went out and removed the tailgate lining from the inside (very difficult) by literally prying it apart from the metal part of the tailgate.

Once I was able to separate enough of the lining, I sat on the inside of the cargo area and pulled the tailgate partially closed. That's when I was able to access the wires leading to the bulb sockets. After attaching the resistors, snapping the liner back into place was simple as the attaching pins are solid and well placed.
