In search of new tires for 2006 ML350

Hey everyone,

I'm in search of new tires for my 2006 ML350. I'm located in Washington DC so I need something that is all-season with relatively good winter traction. The tires that came with the car were Michellin Latitute HP. I would say those tires were okay in the dry and not so good in the snow, so I'm looking for something better in both cases if that is possible. I heard that the Continental 4x4 Contact were better than the Michellin in dry, wet, and snow even though they are cheaper. Is that true, that Continental is better?

Also - it is okay to buy tires that are not OEM?

I have the Continental's on my 06 ML500 and I am quite pleased with them under all conditions. I also have them on my 05 E 320 4M and the same goes for them. I had them on my 02 ML500 and when traded at 40000 miles they still had quite a bit of life left. Have no complaints about them at all.

Does anyone have the Pirelli Scorpion STR tires on their ML? I'm thinking about trying this out as my friend has them on his X3 and they are pretty damn good.

Did you check out tirerack.com? They have plenty of reviews on all sorts of tires, and at the least you can do your research there.

Also, for some of the lesser carried tires you could try Radial Tire Co in Silver Spring. They have a lot of the upper-scale tires in stock for cars, not 100% sure if it's the same with SUV tires but it never hurts to check.
