The stock lights are halogen projector lamps. HID (xenon) lamps are optional. If you have headlamp washers and oval (vs. round) fog lamps, you have the xenon lights.

HID was an option, so you need to verify that your truck has them, first. Pretty easy to do just by sight. 8000 degrees Kelvin is not an upgrade, IMO. Poorer performance (for actually seeing) and way too much bling. Each to his own, though.

Yes, it is possible to retrofit HIDs and have the dealer do the programming. Aftermarket conversions can vary greatly in quality and performance. Also, conversions do not offer self-levelling, which is important with HIDs. Best is to retrofit the complete factory assemblies, but they're quite expensive. You could try salvage sources.

this is the kit you want:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MTEC-...spagenameZWDVW

no error messages, direct plug and play. i used velcro strips to attach my ballasts, didn't want to drill holes in the engine bay.

comes with good instructions - just make sure you aim/align them properly before going out on the road.

retrofitting the actual OEM assemblies wouldn't really help you - they wouldn't scatter light as much since they were made for HID light, but there is no way to retrofit the autoleveling / active-curve functions, so you might as well go this route (a lot cheaper!)
