Aux vs ipod integration?

Call me dumb...but whats the difference between the ipod hookup and the auxiliary port for an ipod? Do they function different??

With the iPod integration in you car you can see the info on your MFD in the instrument panel, you keep the iPod charged and you can somewhat control the iPod with the switches on the wheel. With the AUX socket in the glovebox you simply connect the iPod with a wire to that socket and you must rely solely on the iPod to display all the info, plus you must charge the iPod from time to time.

With a special cable (going to the bottom and not to the top of the iPod) you have an excellent audio quality also using the AUX socket.

Never saw an objective test of difference in sound quality but my Ipod sounds just as good as CD's playing through the glove box jack.
