Auxiliary Heater info ?

I expect my ML 420CDI to be delivered in october (now is shipped to Europe from US).
I've selected option 228 - Auxiliary Heater, remode included.

How is this working ? What does it do ?
The dealer told me that you can start the engine from the distance and it will do warm in winter or cold in summer, using the AC.

After reading about Webasto (BMW system) I've understood that is only a small heater for the engine. (Nordic regions)

What's the deal ? I did not find any information on google about this option, and the manual is useless...

Your best bet is a dealer or perhaps an online owners manual--which I've found available on various European official Mercedes Web sites.

It's not a USA-available option.

Yes, it's covered in the online manual:

Thank you for the info.
Very instructive.

2 problems now:

1. I'll have 2 remotes ? One for the car (open/close + start engine - keyless go), and one for the Heater ?
This is crazy.

2. I'll have to reduce the time to 10 minutes for ventilation mode, or no battery !

My car is on the road (Atlantic Ocean), from the US, to Germany etc
One more month...

The system is smart enough to know when battery voltage drops. It will automatically shut off the system. Yes, you will have 2 remotes.

I ve got this option and it is the best thing on the car, you will love it, promise you I leave the remotecontroll for the heater in my window, at home or at work, and start it whenever needed. You can also start it via the multifunctiondisplay, just programe it for starting next morning and the car is warm and comfy!! Additionally it is possibly to start the heater via sms, but it costs extra and it is done by the dealer. Batteryissue is no problem, I always warm it for 40 minutes and never had a problem with low battery. Had this option on my last car as well...

Good luck on your ride
