How to Turn The Fan On Without Turning On The AC Compressor

Hi:

Is there a way to turn on the fan without causing the AC compressor to turn on? Sometime I just want to turn on the fan and let the fan blows cool fresh air from the outside....also try to save gas if the weather is not that hot.

I have a 2002 C class, the EC (economy button) does the job. On this new ML, I am not sure if the AC/Rest button will turn the AC compressor completely off.

Thanks
