Brake lights out

Brake lights out
OK, not all of them, and maybe not out at all. A couple of weeks ago after I left the car for a couple of days, I got the warning that the brake lamps were out, both right and left, and that the substitute bulb was on. I just figured it was an electrical thing with the car being left for a while and probably just less than usual power going to the lights, causing the message to appear. It disappeared after about 2-3 drives.
Since Friday, every start I'm getting the message, even though it looks fine. I took it to the dealer expecting that they would be able to easily replace any burnt out bulbs, but they tell me that I need to leave it with them for some time. Made an appointment for Friday, so we'll see what happens.
Anyone else have this? I would highly doubt that BOTH bulbs would malfunction, so I think it is some sort of electrical problem.
