"Auto" headlights on all the time

I did some searching on the forum and found plenty of discussion about this, but didn't see the answer I am looking for. I know there are two sensors on the rearview mirror, one forward and one rear to control the auto dimming feature of the mirror. Is the sensor that faces forward toward the windshield also the ambient light sensor that controls the automatic headlights?

My "Auto" headlights are pretty much on all the time even in the middle of a sunny day. I mean, I'm wearing sunglasses to drive and my headlights are on! I have my Daytime Running Lamps configured for Manual so that's not the issue. I'm pretty sure they were working correctly when I first got the car because I can recall driving into the garage and having the headlights turn on. I just recently washed the car.

Can anyone tell me where the ambient light sensor for the headlights is on the ML and have any of you had the same problem?

hmm...my guess would be one of those ball things on the hood by the fins...if I recall correctly there's the spray jets and then a ball or something near it...

Otherwise...can always call mercedes roadside for free and they'll tell you / if not your local dealer

I plan on mentioning it when I go in for my 1000 mi checkup In the meantime, I wanted to "play" with it and see if I could figure out if the sensor was somehow blocked.

I believe that the sensor with all the other light sensors is located on the windshield behind the rear view mirror. Could have a bad sensor.
