HK7 Sound
Hey guys,
When I compare the sound of the HK7 system in the ML with the supposedly same system in the E, the ML sounds like sh*t! -- Actually, the HK7 sound like sh*t, period.
I have matched the settings on both cars (bass, treble, Logic, etc) and have taken the same CD from the E to the ML. There is no comparison. The sound on the E is crisp, clean, beautiful. The ML is boxed, muffled, cheap.
Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the HK sound in their ML with other MB cars?

but you can't compare the hk in different mercedes. all cars have different speaker placement, and different amounts of interior volume to work with.

I had a 2006 E500, and I actually think it sounds way better in the ML. However, I agree that both systems are garbage. Poor bass response, volume never gets loud, distortion, etc. It's worth the price in regard to the basic system is I'm sure worse. I had the standard system in my year 2000 Lexus and it was so superior to the HK, even though on paper the HK seems much better.

'03 ML350IE, '07 S550, '08 ML350CDI
Having just made the move from a 2005 E320 to a 2008 ML320CDI, I have to second this opinion. The E's system was way better. Believe it or not, though, I actually prefer the sound from my 2003 ML350 with the Bose. It probably comes down to the type of music listened too.
One other thing I noticed is that the iPod playback is pretty weak too. I guess that's to be expected, what with how the audio files are cut down to about 10% of their size on CDs.

I'll agree with the other posters, you can't compare the two vehicles. The M is more open inside, which causes the sound to bounce around the cargo area and sound tinny at times. The E class with the lower roof has better acoustics and better speaker placement more in line with the human ear. They could have done a much better job designing the ML system, the sub is tucked away inside a rear pannel which makes it sound muffled and almost useless.
