Updated stats in a week or two will include the 2007.

The 2006 fell just a couple of responses short.

The goal: full results for all model years. Just a matter of getting enough M-Class owners involved. 201 so far.

We have an initial reliability stat for the 2007 M-Class based on owner experiences through March 31, 2010. With a reported repair frequency of 152 repair trips per 100 cars per year, it's worse than average. The sample size is small, so this result might not be accurate.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

We've updated results for the M-Class to include owner experiences through June 30, 2010.

Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the more recent months until the summer or even fall of next year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2007: 125, worse than average

2006: 98, about average

Very small sample sizes in both cases, so these results are not precise.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

Updated partial results for the 2006 and 2007 next month.

I'd like to have full results for all years--just a matter of getting enough owners involved.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also this month: updated reliability stats.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2006: 117, worse than average

Very small sample sizes in both cases, so these results are not precise.

We've updated results for the M-Class to include owner experiences through December 31, 2010.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2007: 146, worse than average

2006: 88, about average

Small sample size for the 2007 and very small sample size for the 2006, which likely explains the difference between these results.

Between the two, the 2007 is based on nearly twice as much data so it's more likely to be accurate.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

2007: 144, worse than average

2006: 166, worse than average

Small sample size for the 2007 and very small sample sizes for the others, so these results are not precise. But they are consistent with one another this time around.

We've updated our reliability stats for the M-Class to include owner experiences through December 31, 2013.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2007 M-Class: 46, low, small sample size
2006 M-Class: 108, high, very small sample size

We'll have further updates in May and in August. With more participants, it's possible that much of the variation from year to year would go away.

Pfft. Way worse than average. The balance shaft gear dissolves resulting in a 10K engine repair, the early 7 speed has issues, the intake manifolds have problems, the window switches fall apart, the interior electric door locks stop working, and the AC vents fall apart + more. OK, not exactly empirical data but...just sayin'. Wish my GF would dump this turkey.

For what it's worth, the current gen ML looks much better so far. So they're getting better.

Our reliability stats for the M-Class now include owner experiences through March 31, 2014, making them nearly a year ahead of other sources.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009 M-Class: 90, high, very small sample size
2008 M-Class: 92, high, small sample size
2007 M-Class: 60, moderate, small sample size
2006 M-Class: 117, high, very small sample size

Thank you, once again, everyone who has been helping. Next update in August.

Why is 2007 better than 2006 and 2008? Seems odd. Is this still within statistical variance for the sample sizes?

The most likely reason is the small sample sizes.

But we also sometimes see a bump for European cars at the six year mark, perhaps because CPO warranties are ending, followed by a dip after that point.

We've updated our reliability stats for the M-Class to include owner experiences through June 30, 2014 (making them about 14 months ahead of some others).

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2013 M-Class: 23, low, small sample size
2012 M-Class: 39, moderate, very small sample size
2009 M-Class: 103, high, small sample size
2008 M-Class: 105, high, small sample size
2007 M-Class: 61, moderate, small sample size
2006 M-Class: 94, high, very small sample size
2000 M-Class: 133, high, very small sample size

Next updates in November and in February. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the M-Class now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2010 M-Class: 55, moderate, very small sample size
2009 M-Class: 89, high, very small sample size
2008 M-Class: 76, moderate, small sample size
2007 M-Class: 86, moderate, small sample size
2006 M-Class: 74, moderate, very small sample size

No stat for a model year? Then we very much need more participants for it. Same for those with small sample size notes--the rest. Next updates in late August and November.

Our reliability stats for the M-Class now cover the year ending June 30, 2015. Repair trips per 100 cars:

2010 M-Class: 49, moderate, very small sample size
2009 M-Class: 84, high, very small sample size
2008 M-Class: 76, moderate, small sample size
2007 M-Class: 97, high, small sample size
2006 M-Class: 122, high, very small sample size

With more owners involved, we could provide more precise stats and also cover the 2011.
