Hello, I plan to buy a 2007 ML with COMAND navigation. I asked my local dealer and he told me that the screen on the 2007 ML is not full color. He told me that Mercedes started installing full color screens since the summer of 2008 when the facelift was launched Is this true? Thanks.

 

Believe he is incorrect. The screen in my 02 and my 06 are color why would the 2007 not be color??. Get yourself a differnt sales person!!

He is right. Not FULL color. It can not be compared to the after-market handheld GPS regarding color and resolution.

 

Your dealer is a moron (just like the other 99% of them).
The Comand screen is full color. It is capable (in certain models) of playing DVD movies. Those models have the same screen. If you put the Comand unit into test mode you can see the whole rainbow in the color test screen. The interface is full color.

The newer Comand has a higher resolution screen, and for all I know might have higher color resolution (32 bit color vs 64 bit color). All that boils down to is a better looking screen. They are both full color.

 

The color and resolution is easily comparable to any after market GPS unit I've used.

I'm not saying COMAND is great, most aftermarket GPS units are somewhat better, but the COMAND unit still gets the job done adequately. Is it "just adequate"? Probably, but as far as color and resolution of the screen I see no difference.

 

The 09 is much better resolution and color. because it has a hard drive the map is no longer limited to 4 gigs of a dvd it is much, much nicer IMHO

 

A DVD holds 8.5 GB. You are probably thinking of single layer DVDs.
The screen is a higher resolution like I said.

What you are saying is that the maps have more detail.
I guess I haven't seen enough of the 09 unit in action, because to me the difference didn't seem to be very much although the 09 unit is clearly better.

 

My 08 has one color blue throughout the screen. It was not like my 08 C you had images, black, orange, etc.

 

My 08 ML350 has the same main blue color, plus some PALE orange, red, grey and of course, black. Its COMAND Navi does not have 3-D (bird view). NOT full color and resolution is at the minimum.
I've heard that the 09 COMAND is much better. It does have 3-D.

 

Why can't DVDs be played on our COMAND units.
I have a 2006 SRX which plays DVDs beautifully, when in Park. The speed sensor keeps me from seeing it on the move, but in Park, it does a great job. But from what I read, the 2006 ML500 that I just bought cannot play them in any mode. I've also read that newer MLs can play them while in Park, but mine won't.
Is this true. And if it is why can't it be done.
I am puzzled.
