Scratch

so this morning i woke up and went to my car and well i find out its been scratched by the rear wheel, some ******* must have hit it while parking or something anyway I would like to know if I will have to paint the whole car just for those scratches or can they just paint that part which is scratched.

Also where could i go to get it fixed i've never had a problem like this since i started driving. Can I go to a Mercedes service or do i have to go somewhere else btw right now i am living in manhattan NY if anyone lives near here and knows a good place where I could fix this please let me know. Also im driving a ML500 2008

Thank you cris

No the whole car does not need to be painted. They will paint adjoining panels and blend it in. Most dealers usually have a body shop or an affiliation with one. For the best paint work use an MB autorized body shop.

Only the body shop you choose can provide you with this info. Cost depends upon the severity of the scratch and the length of time depends on that and the shop's schedule. Are you certain its just a scratch or is the metal dented or pushed in at all. That makes it more expensive and takes longer.

how deep is the scratch? just surface scratch or did it go through the paint? posting a picture would help.

btw, if it is just a surface scratch you can polish it out.

^ agreed

and honestly...if its something minor that you could live with, I wouldnt even bother repainting it/blending...nothing is as perfect as factory machine painting IMO

Here in Calgary we have a paint shop that specializes in scratches and dings. That's all they do. Their work is not as thorough as when a body shop repaints a whole panel, but in my experience only a paint professional can tell the difference. On my X5, it was the difference between $200 and $1,500.

Maybe you should spend half an hour with the Yellow Pages and Google and see if there is anything similar near you.

BTW, rule of thumb is that if you can 'flick' your fingernail in the scratch, it is too deep to be polished out, but if you can't make your fingernail catch in it, you can have it polished.
