Recession? what recession?

Wow, I went to the local MB dealer this weekend and it was so busy I had to find a parking spot in their used car lot. I was hoping to get a deal on an ML but no deals to be had.

Same here, I am located in Ottawa Canada(capital of canada) and the dealer where I got my C63 was packed, people everywhere in the showroom, my sales guy told me it has been insane, apparantly the GLK has been a hotseller, I myself am trading in my wifes 2007 BMW 525i for a new ML350, its ready to pick up anyday now, I went with the Irridium Silver, yeah I know, the same as my C63 AMG....much easier to keep clean, I got it with the premium package and navi, I didnt get the runningboards as the only ML350 on the lot didnt have them. Apparently the ML's have been really selling well, so the runningboard thing, I really like the way they look on the ML, it gives it that sporty AMG look, so I am left with buying the runningboards seperatly which is a lot more money than ordering them from the factory. AARGH!!

^ agreed, the runningboards are great visual touch, I'd try to negotiate working out a price for them as part of the car deal (assuming you havent signed any paper work yet)...I'm sure they'd be willing to work something out

It hasn't been as busy as that here in Calgary, but my dealer doesn't appear to be starving.

Just FYI, I was in the showroom yesterday and he has a brand new white 2008 ML63 marked at Cdn$90,700, down from $107,000 list, or about US$70,100 at today's exchange rate. I'm sure if somebody walked in with a certified check for about Cdn$87,000 (US$67,300) he would take it. You'd have to pay 5% sales tax, but I think you'd get that back when you left the country. Other than metric speedo, I think it's identical to US spec MLs.

Deals on '09 MLs are not nearly as good. I got $3,000 off my 550, although I don't claim to be the world's greatest negotiator.

Interesting times...

I haven't seen much deals from BMW/Mercedes. Mainly the whole recession discounts are from Amercian Manufacturers. Like Ford and GM are giving of $5000+ every car.

Well I just received an email from BMW. They're offering .9% financing and two free months on various models. I would guess most manufacturers are hurting to some degree.

Well, I managed to get them including in the final price, they were about $1800 tax included (canadian $) and they knocked off about $1000 which brings them pretty close to the optioned price from MB factory, so they are orderd and to be installed before I pick the SUV up on saturday, I may find them annoying and "in the way" but I'll get used to them, for some reason I just really liked the way they look.

Just a note: A busy salesroom does not equate to actual sales.

Quite a few MB dealerships have cut staff, hours, extra fluff and are hurting. It varies, but overall there are many MB's sitting on the lot and shipyards with no buyers. The reason why dealers are not offering better deals are beyond me.

Best time to buy anything! On a side note to an earlier post--I was at the BMW store looking at new 5 series (stupid wife!). They were offering the .9% for 60 months. My only problem with BMWs are the brake dust and lease deals that flooded the market. They're everywhere in South Florida.

I'm in Oakville ON, but the last time I bought my E500 I went down to Mississauga. I find the Oakville dealerships are the worst when it comes to making a deal (not just MB but everyone as well). I have always went out to Mississauga or Toronto to buy my cars. I been hearing about all these manufacture discounts on cars so I thought I'd drop by the Mississauga dealership to have a look at the new GLK and ML and see what specials they had. The sales guy offered 2k off the ML320 which wasn't enough to make me want to take the plunge. Plus there seems to be a disconnect between what the salesman says is standard equipment and what is an upgrade. I could have sworn I read in some MB literature that the xenon lights were standard but the sales guy said it was an extra.

Drazil, I just did the paperwork for our 09 ML350 to be picked up on saturday and i got 4k off list plus a bit more immediately, so there are some nice discounts and the xenon are now standard on the MY09.

I got $3000 off of list on my ML350 just north of Toronto, this combined with the high residual 54% and the fact that I got .5% off of the 3.9% current lease rate made it the best lease out there. I got the Pewter Silver color because they had this vehicle in stock with premium and sport packages, but they dont list this color in the ML brochure or website. Am I missing something?

On the website it is called Cubanite Silver, to us its known as the pewter silver, nice color choice, I also took advantage of the .5% discount and the higher residual over the other competitors such as the BMW X5 who couldnt come close to lease payments with the same type of packages, AUDI Q7 was also quite a bit off, but the one that made me howl in disbelief was the Land Rover LR3 HSE, list of 66k and after 36 mnth lease the residual was 28K, can you beleive losing almost 4o thousand dollars after three years, that is completely embarrassing, anyhow, I am glad I went with another Mercedes product as I am thrilled with my AMG C63 in my garage.

Deals are to be had on the 09 ML320 Bluetec here in socal. Just leased an 09 and got over $6k off sticker. I was originally looking at the ML350, but the deal was not nearly as good. Actually glad I got the diesel instead...it gets great gas mileage.

According to todays' newspaper (Saturday March 7), here in Canada "Audi, BMW, Kia, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, and Suzuki all posted increases in February compared with a year ago, and Mercedes, Subaru, and Hyundai had their best February ever."

The low end and the high end appear to be booming, while the middle is suffering.
