ML 280CDI Transmission Problem
Hello!
I own a ML 280CDI made in 2006. I bought it last year from Germany(2008) at 60,000 km. Recently i have experienced some transmission problems.
After a 400 km drive at high speed I entered the city and at a traffic light the transmission started to malfunction. It was like the power from the engine could not get to the wheels...and when it did it was for a second or two...and then the whole thing just decoupled.
I stopped in a parking place and turned off the engine. After starting again it seemed to work fine for the next 5 min and then (after a traffic light) it started doing the same thing. It is very frustrating to push the gas pedal and the car just keeps going at 10 km/h...especially when a tram is coming right at you.![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
The next stop was about an hour and after it cooled down for a while nothing happened...it worked fine...no problems whatsoever. I went to dealership and the guy there told me there was no problem. He did the diagnostic or whatever he did and nothing turned out...
I would like to know if this happened to anyone...and if it did...is it a software or a mechanical problem?

Sounds like limp home mode, but that should store codes and turn on the check engine light. Have another dealer check?

Yes. Exactly the same thing happened to my 06 ML500 which was only a few weeks old at the time. The dealer fixed it and it hasn't recurred 3 years later. The dealer told me the factory had not put enough transmission fluid in it at the time of assembly.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Same thing happend to mine, I assume its a faulty speed sensor in the transmission valvebody, I guess the valvebody in your gearbox will have to be replaced

I donīt know exactly how long it took them (perhaps 2-3 hours to take down the gearbox etc.), anyway I picked up the car the next day and everything worked fine. A defective valvebody problem is quite common on the 7G gearboxes, hope you still have warranty.
