adaptive cruise control has a sensor somewhere in the front end of the car that determines distance to the next car infront of you..... adaptive cruise control slows down if you get close to another car and keeps a certain safe distance

I thought about that option when I ordered my ML, but decided that it was cheaper, safer and smarter to just step on my brake pedal when I got too close to another car with the cruise control on.
It just was not worth the $3000 to have a computer slow me down.

ML320CDI 2008 all options inc air suspension
It is a handy feature if you spend alot of time on freeways in heavy traffic....slows you down and speeds you up when its safe to do so. What I would like to try is the more advanced sytem (distronic plus)that will actually stop your vehicle if something is in front of you...like a deer jumping out of the ditch that you dont see until its too late. I have hit both deer and moose over they years and am lucky to be here to tell the tale. I think that, along with night vison display thats available on the cars would be great

I have had adaptive cruise on a couple of Infinity cars in the past. I like to use it out west in the wide open spaces. I would get behind a lead car and lock on to it with the laser. It keeps the car at selected distance behind a car and makes driving more relaxing on the long drives.

I feel like this and a V1 could be great on my drives from SF to LA.

What happens when you get slow stop and go traffic, does it work?

So I dug up this thread as I see that the Range Rovers being shown in NYC this week all have Adaptive Cruise Control. Any reason there is no Adaptive Cruise Control options on the ML Merz website?

Distronic

It's been available at least since the 2007 model year on the ML. It's called "Distronic". Attached are a couple of screen shots from my 200t ML Owner's Manual. The entire Distronic section in the manual is from pp250-264.

I have the Distronic on my ML63 that I bought off the lot and I must admit, I would never have ordered it that way....

But... after living with it for several years I find It's difficult to live without. It works great! Once you get on the highway you just set it and forget it. Set it at 75 and even if you come up on another slower car and can't pass due to traffic in the left lane, it'll pace the slower car at whatever distance you want. When the left lane clears, just slide over and it automatically jumps back up to 75 once it senses no car in front of you.

An expensive option... yes. But if you spend lots of time on the highway... I'd recomend it.

DISTRONIC (Adaptive Cruise Control) rules! Here in So. Cal., where traffic is always changing speed, it makes the drive so much more relaxing. By the way, Distronic is not offered anymore in anything but the S Class for 2009. Seems not enough people understood and/or were willing to pay the $2200 for it. I had a lot of trouble finding an ML320 CDI with Distronic. What a shame....

Worth a watch... it is in German, funny, I know two words, one is Lexus the other is four letters. http://download.stern.de/_stream/NEBELCRASH_DSL.wmv

For those that are interested, I found out that http://www.mbenznl.nl/ can add distronic to 2009 ML's.

This is what I was told: yes I can add distronic to an ML...it costs 3000USD (parts, instalation and version coding) and I will probably be back in california in about 3 or 4 months

greetingz,
Steve Krabbenborg
